There are no regular non-stop flights between Dublin and Lagos, so travellers normally make at least one connection. A number of European, Middle Eastern and African hubs can be used, giving passengers plenty of choice when comparing journey time, baggage allowance and price. Rather than concentrating only on the cheapest ticket, Tripenger recommends comparing the complete journey. A slightly higher fare can be worthwhile when it gives you a shorter connection, a better baggage allowance or more convenient departure and arrival times. Dublin Airport provides several ways to reach Lagos with one connection. Depending on your travel dates, you may find itineraries through major hubs such as London, Amsterdam, Paris, Frankfurt, Istanbul, Doha or Addis Ababa. Current route listings show connecting options through several of these cities. This gives travellers a useful choice. One itinerary may have a lower headline fare, while another could save several hours of travel time. Baggage rules can also differ substantially between airlines, which matters particularly if you’re travelling to Nigeria for an extended stay or carrying gifts for family. Lagos is served by Murtala Muhammed International Airport (LOS) in Ikeja, the principal international airport serving Lagos State.

There are no regular direct flights from Dublin to Lagos, so passengers should expect at least one stop on the journey. Common connection possibilities include:

Available routings change according to travel date and airline schedules, so it is worth comparing several options rather than assuming the same connection will always offer the best journey. If reducing travel time is important, look closely at the layover rather than simply the number of stops. Two one-stop flights can have dramatically different overall journey times.

International flights arrive at Murtala Muhammed International Airport (LOS) in Ikeja. Nigeria’s Federal Airports Authority identifies it as the major international airport serving Lagos State. One useful thing to know before arrival is that Lagos has separate international and domestic airport facilities. FAAN notes that the domestic General Aviation Terminal is approximately one kilometre from the international airport area. If you are connecting onto a Nigerian domestic flight, check which terminal your next flight uses and allow enough time for the transfer.

Airport transfers in Lagos require a little more planning than simply looking at the distance on a map. Road traffic can have a major effect on journey times, so allow plenty of time when travelling between the airport and areas such as Victoria Island, Lekki or Lagos Island. Depending on where you’re staying, common options include:

If someone is meeting you at the airport, confirm the terminal and meeting point before travelling.

If two flights differ by a relatively small amount, compare their layovers before choosing. A cheaper itinerary with an eight-hour connection may provide poor value compared with a slightly more expensive option that gets you to Lagos several hours earlier. The same applies to baggage. If you know you’re travelling with two checked bags, compare the final price including luggage rather than booking the cheapest basic fare and adding baggage afterwards.

For travellers between Ireland and Nigeria, Lagos is one of the most important long-haul destinations in West Africa.
