The declaration is submitted through the <strong>South African Traveller Management System (SATMS)<\/strong> before you travel, replacing much of the paperwork that was previously completed at the border. If your journey includes connecting flights, you should complete the declaration within 24 hours before the <strong>last flight that travels directly to South Africa<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What Information Will You Need?<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Before starting the declaration, have the following information available:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Passport or travel document<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Flight or travel details<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Contact information<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Details of any travelling companions<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Information about goods, currency or other items that need to be declared<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You do <strong>not<\/strong> need to declare ordinary personal belongings intended for your own use. It&#8217;s recommended that you keep this confirmation available on your mobile phone or print a copy before travelling. If your travel details change before crossing the border, you should update your declaration so that the information remains accurate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What If You Forget?<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">One of the biggest concerns travellers have is whether they will be refused entry if they forget to complete the declaration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Fortunately, <strong>the answer is no.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">SARS has confirmed that travellers <strong>will not be denied entry into or departure from South Africa solely because they did not complete the declaration before travelling.<\/strong> Customs officials and self-service declaration terminals will be available at ports of entry to assist travellers who were unable to submit their declaration in advance.
