If you live in South Africa and are preparing a short-stay Schengen visa application for Portugal, use this guide to check your flight evidence and find the relevant application route. The guidance here covers short-stay applications; use the appropriate official checklist for the purpose of your visit.

Flight itinerary and application guidance

Your flight reservation should show your booking reference (PNR), name, travel dates and flight numbers. Include your full round-trip itinerary and evidence of transport between Schengen countries where relevant. Use the checklist for the Portuguese consulate that covers your home address. If you live in the Western, Eastern or Northern Cape, submit through VFS Cape Town; applications from these provinces are not accepted at the Gauteng or Durban centres. Check the VFS centre page before choosing Johannesburg, Pretoria or Durban for other areas.

A PNR is a booking reference for a flight reservation. It does not by itself mean that a flight ticket has been issued. A ticketed itinerary includes a ticket number.

Where to apply in South Africa

Application provider: VFS Global for the Portuguese Consulate General in Johannesburg or Consulate General in Cape Town.

Application cities: Johannesburg, Durban, Pretoria, Cape Town.
